a semiconductor company. My work involves both coding and algorithm
development. I am wondering if I should spend more time on algorithm side
doing more research work on signal/image area , or focus on CS stuff to keep
work as a 'programmer'.

on Firmware engineer (algorithm design, assembly coding, embedded system,
etc) instead of on signal/image research work.

I got my current job 6 years ago when I was in my PhD program for DSP. The
job is Okay, but I feel it is no longer challenging enough. Keeping in CS is
certainly an option, but I don't have a degree in CS, which may be a
obstacle if I try to move up in that direction. On the other hand, I thought
if I have a strong DSP skills, it may help me to stand out among other
firmware engineer. Bottom line is firmware is a good job, but need
something else to keep me floating in over next 20-30 years. | B*G

your curiosity. | a*******r
发帖数: 122 | 6 Not sure about postdoc, pay is much better here in industry, and it is much
easy to get money to spend on research if the topic is relevant to work.
Most of time, I can know company wants to spend whatever money is necessary
to get things done.
On the other hand, I do know a person in my company with a director title
goes back to school for PhD in EE. And I also heard about people got faculty
position about many years in industries. | h*******o

taking more responsibility to advance or think about jump to other
companies in this case instead of spending time doing research....
