Thank you for contacting me about H.R. 3012, the Fairness for High-Skilled
Immigrants Act. I appreciate hearing from you and I welcome the
opportunity to get back to you.
Like you, I believe that immigrants contribute to the cultural
diversity of our great nation. In fact, the foundation of our&
nbsp;country is based on immigrants that have settled in the United States
from all over the world. Immigrants have always played a vital
role in the development of our country by contributing to our culture,
economy, and political landscape. That is why I believe that we
must work to decrease the current backlog of high-skilled immigrants by
eliminating the per-country limits on the allotment of green cards.
As you may know, H.R. 3012, the Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act,
was introduced by Representative Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) on September 22,
2011. If enacted, this legislation would amend the
Immigration and Nationality Act to eliminate the 7 percent per-
country limitation for employment-based immigrants. It would also
adjust the family-based visa limits from 7 percent per-country to 15
percent per-country. H.R. 3012 is currently pending before the House
Judiciary Committee. Please be assured that I will keep our shared&
nbsp;support for eliminating per-country limits on employment
based immigrants very much in mind as the House of Representatives continues
to consider this important issue.
Thank you again for contacting me. It is a privilege and an honor to
serve you and to act as your voice in our nation's capital. Please
feel free to contact me again with any other issue or matter that concerns
you. You may also want to visit my website at www.house.gov/
