In what is a significant milestone for our community, Dr.Puneet Arora from
Immigration Voice testified at the Senate Immigration Sub-committee hearing
on July 26th, 2011. Along with highlighting the critical contribution of the
high-skilled immigrant community, Dr.Arora stressed on the immediate need
to remove per-country caps in the employment-based green card system. In
addition, his testimony covered the plight of high-skilled green card
applicants, stuck for years together, in application backlogs. Dr.Arora’s
landmark testimony, on behalf of members of Immigration Voice, is the first
time any organization has been provided the opportunity on Capitol Hill to
specifically speak on the subject of employment-based green card backlogs
and the subsequent retrogression impacting our high-skilled community. The
testimony was very well received by members of Congress on both sides of the
aisle. Immigration Voice sincerely hopes that our inputs during the
testimony combined with ! continued advocacy and lobbying will significantly
help alleviate the suffering of thousands of green card applicants and
their families who are stuck in wait times stretching from anywhere between
8 to 30 years.
Immigration Voice deeply appreciates the leadership of Senate Immigration,
Refugees and Border Security sub-committee Chairman Senator Chuck Schumer (D
-NY) and Ranking member Senator John Cornyn (R-TX). We will continue to
strongly support their role in reforming the high-skilled immigration system
.
For the first time in History, Senate Judiciary committee hears the plea of
Indian Skilled workers and for a change in its immigration policy for
skilled workers.
