Thank you for contacting me about the allocation of employment-based
visas to Chinese immigrants. I appreciate hearing from you on this
important issue.
As you know, the U.S. State Department issues the Visa Bulletin each
month to allocate available immigrant visas. Family-based, employment-based
, and diversity-based visas are listed with a corresponding priority date.
This priority date represents the day on which an individual filed an
immigrant application. Only individuals with a priority date earlier than
the one listed on the Visa Bulletin may be issued visas.
In March 2011, the priority date for employment based second Chinese
immigrant visas was July 8, 2006. In April 2011, this priority date
advanced to July 22, 2006, and it further advanced in May 2011 to August 1,
2006. Please be assured that I am monitoring this issue and will keep your
views in mind should the Senate consider relevant legislation.
