take a look at Microsoft Data Access Application Block - it's part part of the
enterprise library now (search mdsn) - it includes most of the things you need
for db connection.
I am from j2ee (lots experience), my suggestion is that forget about j2ee for
now and don't do too much comparison - save that for later until you're
comfortable with .net
