chess set supposedly used (inset)
It is said to have been made by Hitler's art teacher, Emma Lowenstramm, and
signed by the two leaders.
It was made in Vienna in 1909, when the future Fuhrer was a jobbing artist t
here and Lenin was in exile.
It was owned by a Jewish family, in whose house the game was supposedly held
. They gave the image and chess set to their housekeeper, whose great-great
grandson could now net 0,000 for each item at an auction in Shropshire nex
t month.
.'This sounds too good to be true but the vendor's father spent a lifetime p
roving it [is genuine],' auctioneer Richard Westwood-Brookes said.
The etching was probably a 'glorious piece of fantasy', said Lenin expert an
d historian Helen Rappaport
