Provides support and development for all production database platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide database development for MySQL and Oracle databases.
Provide production support for multiple Oracle, MySQL and Microsoft SQL
Server databases.
Assess performance of database systems and recommend and implement
improvements.
Provide ongoing documentation of system and system changes
Review capacity and scalability of existing systems on an ongoing basis
Interface with internal and external developers to assure optimal
performance of MSS systems.
Perform troubleshooting, system administration, and project-related tasks on
other MSS Infrastructure systems as needed.
Perform 24 x 7 on call duty system administration duty
Participate in after hours and weekend maintenance and upgrade projects as
needed
Skills Rating:
General Database: Monitor relational databases to optimize database
performance, resource use, and physical implementations of databases;
address a variety of database integration issues including migration between
disparate databases, integration, maintenance/conversion, capacity planning
issues, and new applications. Monitor and maintain database security and
database software, in cooperation with data security administrators.
Maintain availability and integrity of databases through multiple access
schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and
index management and data dictionary maintenance. May evaluate and recommend
testing and evaluation of new procedures, software, and hardware. Monitor
and manage database backups, logs, and journals; installs, maintains, and
upgrades database software; restore and/or recover data as required.
