j*********r 发帖数: 654 | 1 I have a bike with Shimano WH-R500 650C wheels. The spoke became rusty and
one spoke broke only after less than 200 miles. When I was replacing the
broke one, two more broke. So I figure the wheel has to be rebuilt by a LBS
or I might well get a new front wheel. Because it might be cheaper to get a
new wheel than paying for the rebuilt. Shall I get the same Shimano or
something better but <$150 (front wheel only)?
Thanks! | p*******r 发帖数: 180 | 2 Hey ya! Just a few rusty spokes or there are a lot? Front wheel only? How is
the rear wheel looking? If you got it from a LBS, I'd take it back. Not
acceptable for only ridden 200 mi. I have a set of R500 700c on an older
bike and they look/spin just fine except they are heavy as hell. R500s are
pretty standard stock wheels used by many brands.
If you only have a few rusty/broken spokes in the front wheel, AND you are
not too fussy about its performance/weight/look, stick with the wheel and
buy a few spokes (get the right size) and a wrench. Watch a youtube video
and you are ready to go. $10 gets you covered and you learn a new skill.
Truing a wheel is actually quite easy.
If the problem is more prevalent and the bike (or you) deserves something
better, get new wheels. I recently broke my CF wheel and got a set of Vuelta
from Nashbar as a temporary replacement and I couldn't be happier. I know a
local guy who's built thousands of wheels and can build you a set that
weighs around 1440g but will cost $500.
If it is a beater bike, I'd go with option 1. | j*********r 发帖数: 654 | 3 I am letting the LBS dealing with the wheel manufacturer.
Thanks! | j*********r 发帖数: 654 | 4 The final solution was have the wheels rebuilt.
Do NOT buy anything from www.nytro.com! 这个店不老实,做事马虎。 |
