Thought this is something worth to share:
一名本地自行车俱乐部会员的自我思考:
There's probably a cyclical element to the up and down nature of bicycle
racing. A bad economy doesn't help. I have on occasion asked myself why it's
important to renew my membership every year even though my last bicycle
race was the Tour DeLowell. (Or maybe the Apple blossom in Littleton). I
basically fall into the category it's money well spent, it's for a good
cause and I'm doing my part to help keep cycling in a positive light. That
may pay dividends down the road and on the road as I compete with motorized
vehicles for a little piece of firm pavement. And I have to say my
experiences on the road are 99.9% positive.
I will say that whenever I'm wearing an NEBC jersey, and I have some that go
back 15 years, I'm always mindful of how my actions reflect back to the
names and sponsors on the jersey. I also find the jersey bumps up my average
speed and gives me a little more determination not to be pushed around by
other riders looking to test me. Yes those competitive juices are still
there. Even though I won't be taking the podium anytime soon, I'm hoping
that maybe, just maybe, that young boy or girl playing with the game boy in
the SUV that just passed me, may find something inspirational in the splashy
jersey, or the sleek efficient machine that seems to be flowing effortless
in harmony with the road. Maybe right there and then a seed will be planted
that will pay dividends down the road. So were out there quietly promoting
the sport in our own way.
(By the way, I never had a podium finish in a bike race. I was dropped
quickly on the hills. But I did much better racing mountain bikes. Was
ranked 6th in my age group on the EFTA circuit about 10 years back. But
carpal tunnel made short work of that in a hurry). |
