imagine that's how the shoes work...
I think the price is pretty decent considering you don't have to change
shoes for a few years...
One more note...if you are getting SPD, make sure you get the cleat covers
too...they cost about $10 a pair from PB. They are really useful in
preventing sands, dirts, etc from getting into your cleats.
Good luck.. ride more and write more trip report...hehe

Otherwise it will be uncomfortable and numb after 3-4 hours of riding. you
should try the size of the different brands in LBS first to get a feel first
before ordering on line. I had the same trouble...hehe
