to have a conversation with some Africans in Yale. The movie promotes racial
conflicts and hatreds between the Africans and Chinese in thirty some
minutes.
I may grow up in the era that our media propaganda dipicted African people
were our comerades and brothers. We morally supported their independence
back then. Now we materially support their growth. I always thought that
Chinese and Africans were friends, at least.
However, not only in the movie, but also among those elites studying in Yale
, African people have tremendous fear and dislike toward Chinese people.
Surely they complain about competitions of local business opportunities
between the two racial groups, for example, there are four shops owned by
Chinese and only two owned by Africans. Not suprisingly the Chinese shops
sell for less and have more customers. They complain about lack of job
opportunities for locals in Chinese investments in infrastructure
development projects. The Chinese companies prefer to fly the Chinese
construction workers to Afica to complete the jobs rather than hiring more
local people. Of course the cost and productivity issues are not mentioned.
They complain about Chinese males who work in Africa do not marry enough
African females. This time in the movie, the African male of the rarely
interracially marriaged couple, says that the Chinese wife is more faithful.
It is common that some movie directors cherry-pick stories to prove and
promote his own agenda. I rarely have watched any movies that promote racial
hatreds in US. This is one.
My personal feeling is that there are opportunities in Africa, but I
probably will not risk my life to go there, because I could well be one of
the victims between the racial conflicts, like the conflicts in Rwanda and
Indonesia.

comments below the video, you may find quite a lot of African people support
China.
For example:

Movie makers are more likely to be "elite" people, so understably they do
worry about the competition from Chinese elite.
But laobaixing in Africa enjoy the good things from China.
