NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Yale-New Haven Hospital and the Hospital of Saint
Raphael in New Haven are considering a merger to save costs.
The hospitals say the move could enhance health care quality, access and
efficiency for the region.
A letter of intent says Yale-New Haven would buy the assets of Saint Raphael
, creating one hospital with continued access to care at both campuses. The
letter is one of multiple steps in an extended approval process.
Hospital officials say Saint Raphael's Catholic heritage would continue.
Yale-New Haven would invest about $135 million in capital improvements at St
. Raphael. The majority of Saint Raphael employees are expected to become
part of the newly combined hospital. |

quality may be suffered. Even I am not big fan of either hospital, I
personally think this merger may not be a good news for the patients around
the area. |
