Dear BVSD Elementary School Parents and Guardians,
With the recent news stories about a missing child from Jefferson County in
the media, several principals proposed that BVSD Communications send out
basic safety information regarding safe stranger awareness procedures. We
know that our students have heard some or all of the messages below from you
and from adults at their schools already. Nevertheless, if you think that
it would be helpful to review these safety tips again; here is a good list
from a publication by the Centers for Disease Control. The title of the
publication and a link to its full text is below.

SAFETY TIPS: From CDC’s “KIDS WALK-TO-SCHOOL” A Guide to Promote Walking
to School

Remind children:
• Stay with a group.
• If a stranger offers you a ride, say “NO!”
• If a stranger follows you on foot, get away from him or her as
quickly as you can. If a stranger follows you in a car, turn around and go
the other direction.
• Never leave school with a stranger.
• Tell a trusted adult if a stranger is hanging around the school,
playground, or public restroom.
• Leave items and clothing that display your name, so that a stranger
can read it, at home.
• If you arrive home alone, call your mother, father, or other
trusted adult to let them know you are home and all right. Keep the door
locked, don’t open the door for strangers, and don’t tell strangers that
you are home alone.
• Never accept things from a stranger.
• If a stranger asks you a question, don’t talk. Run away.
• Don’t go anywhere with a stranger. | b******7

girl from Westminster, CO. At about 1:00 pm today (10/7), the missing girl's
back pack and water bottle were found in Superior. It is also my
understanding that law enforcement was canvassing the area. With all this
activity happening around our community today, we both want to acknowledge
the special anxiety that many of our Superior and Eldorado community members
may be feeling at this time.
刚收到学校的信，孩子的背包和水瓶在superior找到了。superior可是离westminster
至少5个miles，孩子怎么能自己走过来、、、？？？这世道。。。

The girl in Cody, Wyo., was lured to a white SUV by a man who approached
her and two friends Monday afternoon. He told them that he was missing his
black lab puppy and asked if they could help him find it, police said.
One of the little girls agreed to help him and climbed into the front seat
of the vehicle and he drove away. Forty-five minutes later, one of the other
children called the police to say that her friend had gotten in the car and
not returned.
