Regional Managing Director, Mid-Atlantic Region
Reporting to the Vice President, Regions-East, the Regional Managing
Director (RMD) will be responsible for setting and executing the strategic
vision and operational plan for the region and achieving ambitious
fundraising and non-financial goals in line with UNICEF USA’s Strategic
Plan. The RMD will collaborate with a volunteer Board of Directors, manage a
portfolio of individual high net worth and local corporate donors and
prospects across the region; and supervise a team of three. The Mid-Atlantic
Region is made up of four states and the District (Delaware, Maryland,
Virginia, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.).
The Regional Managing Director will have oversight over the region–its
vision, goals, and operations -in collaboration with the Vice President,
Regions -East and in coordination with Vice President, Major Gifts. The
Regional Managing Director will have direct oversight over the local Major
Gifts Team and a Global Citizenship Fellow. The RMD leads their regional
team to focus on building: 1) key relationships that can bring in gifts of $
10,000 or more, with a particular focus on gifts of $100,000 or more, and 2)
key relationships that can serve as UNICEF influencers to help build a
national movement for children around the world.
The RMD will have a portfolio of around 75 regional influencers, which will
include regional board leadership; individual /foundation / corporate major
donors; key movement-building influencers (faith-based leaders, community
leaders, etc.); and media contacts. Additionally, the RMD will oversee and
align engagement strategy and advocacy efforts with the Office of Public
Policy and Administration (OPPA) to help secure government funding for
UNICEF USA and other priority efforts.
Key Responsibilities/Outcomes (include but are not limited to):
Develop and implement strategic vision and operational plan for Mid-Atlantic
region, to be aligned with and supported by UNICEF USA’s Strategic Plan
priorities and performance goals
Build organizational capacity by raising visibility, and expanding the board
and maximizing the boards’ involvement in meeting assigned annual goals
Cultivate and solicit current and prospective donors in the region
Execute on local engagement and fundraising events, activities and speaker
series
Cross-divisional leadership of regional opportunities as they arise
With National team, oversee work plan and set priorities for local Global
Citizenship Fellow to improve grassroots awareness and increase UNICEF USA
’s footprint in the region
Communicate UNICEF USA’s mission and establish a public presence through
local media visibility and events
Oversee daily operations of the regional office, including supervising staff
, managing public inquiries, budgets, etc. and work closely with UNICEF USA
’s Office of Public Policy and Advocacy in Washington, D.C. regarding
shared office responsibilities
Serve as the liaison with the national office and handle all duties of a
regional leader
Responsible for professional leadership and development of staff in office
Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred)
A minimum of ten years of major gift fundraising development experience,
with a proven success record in major gifts cultivation and solicitation,
and at least three years in a leadership role
Strong management and strategic leadership skills
Demonstrated success working with volunteer Board leadership
Familiarity with the Mid-Atlantic area’s philanthropic community and
influencers
Experience in a complex, multi-team environment and experience leading cross
-divisional teams
Strong organizational and time management skills with exceptional attention
to detail
Proven track record leading teams
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; must have strong
public speaking skills
Ability to influence and engage a wide range of donors and build long-term
relationships
Knowledge of fundraising best practices, including all aspects of donor
cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
Some experience with advocacy and public policy is a plus
Must possess a strong work ethic, and be a motivated, enthusiastic team
player who embraces the mission of UNICEF USA
Must be willing to travel domestically and occasionally internationally
