Cheminformatics Application Support Analyst - Information Technology and

Dow AgroSciences seeks a Cheminformatics Application Support Analyst to
interact with R&D scientists and to understand and support cheminformatics
Discovery workflows. This full-time position is located in Indianapolis, IN,
USA.
This position provides a talented individual a great opportunity to learn
about a wide variety of R&D systems and work processes. The successful
candidate will work closely with multi-disciplinary R&D scientists and the
software development teams to support, troubleshoot and test new and
existing information management systems. Dow AgroSciences has made
significant investments in IT solutions and the successful candidate will
identify opportunities to extend and enhance these systems as needs change
or evolve.
The successful candidate for this position is expected to perform the
following job responsibilities:
- Analyze and troubleshoot application problems; appropriately escalate
issues to development or network teams
- Examine application-related information and provide recommended course of
action to key stakeholders that will enhance the customer experience and/or
solves existing business problems
- Develop and maintain production support process, tracking and
documentation
- Develop and deliver end-user training
- Coordinate with developers and end-users to develop and execute
appropriate test plans
- Identify changes in R&D processes that might lead to changes in
application usage or expectations and recommend solutions
- Provide updates on issues and communicate with users, developers and
leaders as appropriate
- Proactively monitor applications for expected results, trends and
improvement areas
Qualifications
Skills / Qualifications:
The successful candidate is expected to have:
- Expert understanding of chemical structures and ability to interpret
cheminformatics workflows
- Experience and expertise with cheminformatics molecular analysis formats
and tools
- Proven expertise with database design, SQL/PL-SQL procedures and scripting
languages (JavaScript, VBScript, Perl, Python, etc.)
- Strong problem solving skills (i.e., identification, replication,
troubleshooting, resolution, verification, communication and/or escalation
as required)
- Previous project leadership or Six-Sigma/Lean experience is a plus
- Understanding of software development processes and methodologies (ITIL,
SDLC)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong ability to
communicate technical information to a variety of stakeholders both verbally
and in writing
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a inter-disciplinary environment
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize projects and tasks
- Ability to participate in system development discussions
- Demonstrated ability to utilize existing processes and the ability to
define and implement change when the need arises
Education / Experience:
- Applicants should have a Masters degree or higher in computer sciences,
chemistry, cheminformatics, biotechnology or a related field.
- Prefer applicants with industry experience (minimum 2 years, prefer 5
years).
- Applicants should have the desire and the ability to learn and understand
scientific work processes.
