(China, the world's largest cotton consumer; Pakistan, the third-largest
user; The U.S. is the world's largest exporter of cotton.
My comment: For years I have wondered causes of hyper-inflation in China
before 1949, which somehow was tamed soon afterwards, despite the facts that
communist leadership had no training in economy and a year later China
entered Korean War. (Communists executed millions in the following years,
but the number would be a drop in the bucket, relative to the entire
population.) One possibility was that peasants in KMT controlled areas
hoarded produces--on their own or driven by communists--which were released
after communists arrived. If so, the situations (namely causes of inflation)
in China are again similar to those before 1949. |
