Mayor proposes new roadway between downtown, Chinatown

The Emanuel administration presented plans Wednesday for a new road that by
late 2016 would provide smoother connections from downtown to Chinatown and
other areas along the south branch of the Chicago River.
The $62 million project, called the Wells-Wentworth Connector, would also
realign Wentworth Avenue between Archer and Cermak roads to bring this
section of Wentworth in line with the portion of Wentworth south of Cermak,
according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.
The Wentworth-Cermak intersection, which jogs in an offset alignment,
contributes to a high number of crashes, according to a city analysis.
“The realignment of Wentworth will greatly improve safety for both
motorists and pedestrians, while forming better links between New Chinatown
Square and the traditional Chinatown south of Cermak,’’ according to a
statement from the mayor’s office.
In Chinatown, the southern end of the new arterial road would offer access
to the Dan Ryan Expressway, according to the city’s Central Area Action
Plan, a list of proposals and specific projects, along with their
construction timetables and estimated costs.
Other goals include improving access to Ping Tom Park, enhancing safety in
Chinatown and providing an alternative route into and out of downtown, Mayor
Rahm Emanuel said after introducing two ordinances to the City Council to
buy land needed to realign Wentworth at Cermak.
Construction would be done in three phases, with completion of the entire
project slated for approximately late 2016, officials said.
First, the city needs to buy four properties, officials said. One is a
parking lot that is owned by the state near the Cermak-Chinatown CTA Red
Line station, and three are privately held buildings, officials said. The
buildings that will need to be acquired are on the northwest corner of
Wentworth and Cermak: 202, 204 and 208 W. Cermak Road, according to CDOT.
“This project has been in the works in one form or another since the 1960s,
’’ CDOT spokesman Pete Scales said. “CDOT did a feasibility study in 2002
, but the project stalled because the large residential development (planned
) to the north didn’t happen. There is renewed interest in this project now
, which is why we are moving forward with the plan.’’
The city has slowly been planning improvements for more than a decade to
boost safety and reduce traffic congestion in the area, especially among
vehicles exiting the Ryan ramps at Cermak. In April 2008, a semitrailer
truck that had just exited the Ryan barreled through a crowded intersection
and slammed into the Cermak-Chinatown station, killing two people and
injuring 21.
The project’s first phase will provide improved access along Wentworth to
the Ping Tom Park fieldhouse, near 19th Street. Construction is expected to
start in the fall, with completion by the end of 2015.
The second phase would include the realignment of Wentworth at Cermak.
Construction is estimated to start in the late fall 2015, CDOT said.
The third phase, north of the Ping Tom fieldhouse, will provide access to
undeveloped land adjacent to the Chicago River. Construction of the right-of
-way will be coordinated in conjunction with a future mixed-use
redevelopment agreement.
Money will be provided by the River South and 24th/Michigan tax-increment
financing districts, within the project’s boundaries, Scales said.
“This road, in addition to opportunities to bridge the Chicago River at
Taylor and Polk streets, subdivides large parcels into an orderly set of
development parcels and provides a grid system to enhance mobility in this
area,” the Central Area Action Plan said.

种郊区公司都要搬downtown了，笑姐下来客户多多，你竟然和她break up~~~
旁边就是SL小学（估计2016年要大扩容了），新的地块，市长肯定和房地产商勾结好了
所有的开发计划，地税收入刚刚的，财政一下会轻松很多。。。

是我. 只是可以更加肆无忌惮的黑而已.
另外尼大叔,这美帝建个1 miles的鸟路, 都要62M的budget, 建下来估计都得翻番不止.
都不要收购啥贵地方的.

1）roosevelt那里不是简单的平交（平面交叉），
2）这路不仅要买几块私人地盘，还要想办法过铁路线，
3）城里什么都贵，和你那种野猫不拉屎的乡下不能比，反过来说premium的价格给你
premium的服务，你总不能去中国湖南乡b集中地抓帮大嘴过来吹条路出来吧？
所以说这是眼界，你不要和没文化大叔那种郊区土包混了，新地盘快点去抢块地，自己
盖房经验丰富了，争取再两年住新房。。。

那儿买东西阿。又脏又乱又拥挤，比在国内的购物环境还差一大截。商家在那儿一门心

中国城里面的房子，户型太奇怪了，小逼大点儿的房子分了N多间。估计除了国人，老

工会工人绝对不如中国民工, 一个人活分成5个人, 在一天干半天.

I recommend you go to 18th st or UIC to get yours. Rivernorth is too
expensive and HOA could reach $1k per month.
