Indiana authorities say they have dibs on any cash you may find along I-94
in LaPorte County.
That's where David Ziesel was seen throwing wads of cash out of an SUV as he
fled a bank he had robbed in LaPorte last Friday, according to the FBI and
police. He was finally arrested in west suburban Elburn, about 100 miles
away.
Police say they had reports of people stopping along the highway over the
weekend looking for cash. "The bank has reported it as stolen, and it is
bank property," LaPorte County police Chief of Detectives John Boyd warned
Monday.
Ziesel, 32, walked into the LaPorte Savings Bank around 2 p.m. Friday and
announced a robbery, according to the FBI. He then sped off in a tan SUV,
but a Michigan City Police detective and an off-duty LaPorte County deputy
in his marked police vehicle caught sight of him.
As they tried to stop Ziesel, the SUV struck the deputy's vehicle, according
to authorities. Ziesel then led police on a high-speed chase down I-94,
tossing money along the way, police said. The pursuit continued into
Illinois and Ziesel was captured in Elburn.
Ziesel was charged with felony aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a
police officer and a misdemeanor charge of resisting a peace officer. | p***w
