看到复旦大学朱洪教授的一段话，他说，CS叫computer science很奇怪，就好像天文学叫
望远镜科学，医学叫显微镜科学，他建议像欧洲那样叫informatics.
我觉得informatics和cs还是很不同的，cs的对象是计算，计算是语法概念，信息好像是
语义概念，一个最简单的反馈控制包含计算，但可以不包含信息。
英国有computing science这个叫法吧？有没有computation(al) science这个叫法？有没
有
computics这个词？
cs的数学基础应该叫computational mathematics吧？可惜被计算数学抢注了，而计算数
学的内容比cs肤浅(不fundamental)多了。
大家讨论一下？

我觉得就叫computational sciences挺好的.
computer science确实有点土.

this viewpoint is not new at all. There are a couple of big names in CS who
questioned the same thing. They don't think CS is a good name since computer
scientists do the same kind of research with ppl in other engineering
disciplines (EE, ME, etc) but all other disciplines have a name 'xxx
engineering'.......it is a previlage of computer scientists....:)

totally agree ! hehe.. I have read several papers arguing the name of cs,
authored few decades ago. hehe.
if I can remember correctly, Brooks wrote one paper. maybe you can find more
in Turing award lectures.
yes, the argument is,
(1) every discipline with a name science is not a science but a engineering.
e.g. computer science. information science. bio science
(2) every discipline with a name engineering is indeed an engineering
e.g. EE, civil engineering.
(3) every discipline without science

听说现在计算数学也想慢慢转型跟cs有点类似了把？
oh 或者他们和物理结合紧些？

If you think of a "computer" as a computing machinery
(e.g., a turing machine) instead of a pile of chips and
electronics, then there is nothing wrong with the name.
To computer scientists, a computer is not just a tool,
but also their object of research. Studying what problems
are solvable with a computer and how efficient they can
be solved is definitely science, not engineering.

定义或者名称的关键，是看有没有歧意。语言这东西本来就是一个符号，意思到了就

我觉得中文的土木就很好. 非常朴素. 甚至非常cool.

I think pure computation theory is so hard. Logic is another kind of headache.
Anyway, computer science evolves a great deal with the improvement of its
physical foundation -- computer. Just like astronomer can do far more with
today's telescope, research in computer science has changed a lot with the
improvement of computing power.

不觉得奇怪
计算机科学里面的计算和计算数学中的计算意义并不一样，我觉得。
CS里面的计算是基于图灵机的，指算法（有效的过程），分析
可计算性（分析一个问题的是不是可以被一个图灵机判定等），
复杂性（算法＝图灵机的时间空间复杂性）
而计算数学里面的计算具体的指在计算机上实现方程等数学问题
求解的方法，重点分析收敛性。
计算数学里面的数学指连续性的数学分析等。
CS则重点在离散数学。
