you need be able to first test your models in small scale,
access database, and mine on internet or manipulate text,
and finally if everything looks good, turn your small model
into industrial level program.
so you need at least one in each of the 4 following section:
1. large scale programming, building industrial level models:
C++ or Java, etc
2. quick testing of small models:
Matlab or Mathematica, or R, etc
3. database accessing:
SQL etc
4. Text mining/manipulation language:
Perl or Python, etc
