现在有两个option.一个是在本校读MBA，2年的program,但是因为以前陆陆续续修了一
些课，和老师也比较熟，所以算算学分，他们也同意让我一年毕业。另外，finance系
也可以进他们的PhD program.我现在很犹豫。学校不怎么好，70名的样子，所以MBA
placement也不是太好，当然工作也能找到，看同学找很费力，要四处想办法sell
yourself.PhD program也不很好，不过好像每年招生控制的很严格，一年就1-2个。出
路现在看上去比MBA要好一些。也有人建议我申请top MBA program.但是今年基本上来
不及了，就算可以肯定也没有financial aid了。我本来倒是挺愿意以后找个小学校教
书，但是今年已经要生物博士毕业，都快26了，再加一个金融的博士，至少4年，觉得
20岁到30岁就一直在这里读书了，想想也比较害怕。所以上来问问大家，这样的PhD
program值得上么？还是直接1年上自己学校MBA拉倒？两种都基本上有全奖。或者是等
一年，申请好一点的MBA program?我的背景就是马上生物博 |

手里有个760 GMAT, 大概99%吧,
不用上去申请TOP学校,是不是感到很浪费啊?
看你其他方面情况怎么样了,
如果可以的话,还是试试更好的学校吧.

is not a big problem.

PhD program? It looks like the chairman is giving me a nice offer and I
hear people say it is difficult to getting in even though the school is not
that good. I am not sure about the future placement.

as u said, they usually admit 1-2 people from 50-100 people.
so u don't have to apply it urself.
just say which school.
so we can help u to see if it worth going.
otherwise, just too difficult to analyze without any useful information.
for example,
univ. of alabama vs. florida state univ.
i would say they r at same level.
however, people will prefer FSU for sure in this case. |

It is just it takes another 4 years to get the finance PhD assuming
everything goes on well and only 1 year to get a MBA. I feel scared that I
spend 10 years in Syracuse,while most of my friends are gone, finding a job
somewhere...

发帖数: 2065 | 16 finance Ph.D. is actually my choice, even in a "not-so-good" university as
you mentioned.
But I choose it because I love it.
And plus, my BS degree is also finance.
I don't suggest anyone with other majors rush to finance just for money.
After all, you may suffer a lot with something you don't really like for 4
or more years.

ranking. You can check their publication record. Only a few faculties
published on the top journals. In addition, many faculty members graduated
from 30+ programs.
I think that it could be a pure waste of your time. |

friends told me even the graduates have poor publication record, they still
get nice jobs, like faculties in small colleges/universities. That's why I
am hesitating if it is worthwhile to pursuing another PhD.

to stand out by your research.
BTW, the job market for finance phds is tough because many econ phds from
top schools are competing for the positions. It could be another story for
accounting phds. |

bababoomers陆续退休而phd产量有限）。如果你不介意将来到teaching school做
faculty，那2nd tier学校的offer不用犹豫。这么年轻，用四年时间把薪水翻三倍，值
得。 |
