标 题: 最近形势能不来弯曲就不来吧

我以前向来是鼓励大家来弯曲的。但是最近形势看，其他地方码工的工资待遇都赶上甚
至超过弯曲不少。这里的风险也变大了。小公司不计其数。个个都想发。和2001年的泡
沫很像了。
房价太贵。旧金山最近有人要盖只有220 square feet一间的studio楼。居然计划是要
租1200美元一个月。看看，220 sqft租1200/月！高级硅漂啊？在旧金山据说已经是算
便宜的了。
硅谷普通略好地区2000呎的房子没有一百万的拿不下来。好区更不用说了。要不然就
得住的很远。上下班路上得塞一个多小时。
加州税也高。个人所得税高。Sales Tax又涨了。硅谷的Sales Tax 10%。工资不比其他
地方好多少。等等此类。风险和回报的比例已经不太合适了。

据我观察，现在西雅图码工的待遇实际水平已经超过硅谷。生活质量和硅谷比好得多。
中国有北漂，蚁族。那是万不得已。一线找工作机会多。码工不一样。各大城市码工目
前税后收入差不多。而硅谷泡沫化严重。生活成本差别太大。现在的气氛就是dotcom 2
.0。实际发财的机会不多了。而股票发不到财想靠工资买体面的房子根本没有希望。没
有好学区房子，小孩子教育压力非常大。中国人又多，攀比极其严重。很多新人父母都
很痛苦。人心浮躁。
实在是看到很多30岁左右的同僚，小孩绕膝的，还租着小小的两室一厅。不知道何年何
月才能买到体面的房子。有房子的很多也是房奴。有一个人失业就顶不住了。生活质量
太差。
30左右，年薪六位数，在很多地方一个人工作就能买很好的房子了。
我两个老美同事，两年前去Austin。一个买了一栋三十几万的房子，学区很好，离
一个湖边一条街。我看了好多照片。那样的房子在硅谷现在没有一百五十万拿不到。如
果是Palo Alto，那二百五十万也打不住。
另一个干脆自己造了一栋新房。
经验这个事，也要看你在硅谷哪个公司。硅谷垃圾或者不知名的小公司的经验也没有用。
现在有LinkedIn了，雇主都可以从网上找出你的背景，你以前公司的背景，你以前同事
的背景。如果你以前公司的同僚都不咋地，都是什么印度Jalabalaha野鸡大学毕业的，
公司也没名气，没成功，那不管在哪里，这个背景都是短处。
不是说凡是硅谷公司就都有光环的。
Startup绝大部分是重复建设。一哄而上。你不知道哪个能做成。工资还压得低。而且
如果不是创始人或早期的工程师，也没有什么油水。N年工资奖金的损失，也不见得能
补回来。
当然不是没有好公司。Google就是一家。工资奖金给的也高。光环也大。
什么事情都是有个平衡。老中老印多，竞争也激烈。小孩子教育升学如此。工作也是如
此。你不见得能出头。
现在市场已经趋于理性。硅谷近几年上市的公司。LinkedIn不错。Palo Alto Networks
, Facebook也还算不错。其他几个都不怎么好：
Zynga，Ruckus Wireless, Jive, Infoblox, Splunk, Big Band Networks,
Meru Networks, Yelp
上市的市值很低。公司里的码工赚不到什么钱。以前那种上市一两个月就翻一番的场景
早就没有了。那些上不了市倒闭的你就不听说了。
你想，上市股价几块到十几块，你四年拿个一两万股，也就是赚个几万到三十几万。工
资奖金四年少了不少。这还算是成功的。大部分，十之八九，都是不成功的。股权都打
水漂。风险大，生活家庭牺牲很大，回报并不大。 |

Bay Area. tech is a pretty cyclical industry, so be careful not to
extrapolate the current hot market/high salary into the future.
the established/mega tech companies are increasingly encroaching on each
other's territories, and margins have nowhere to go but down. most of the
upstart tech/software/social companies have yet to figure out ways to
monetize. SAAS/cloud/social are nice bubble topics, but they don't make
nearly as much money as the old models. for now, there is enough VC money
and insane public market valuation to support the frenzy. once those are
gone, look out below.
to be fair, now is not nearly as crazy as then. i am just concerned the
whole industry is a lot more mature than 15 years ago. maturing industries
will increasingly rely on consolidation/cost cuts... |

This round is different, (well, we say that every time, don't we). The
startups are much healthy and the VC investment are not crazy at all.
The technology is really in a new era with cloud, mobile, big data, it is a
phenomenal a new after-internet era.
Even it is a bubble too for this round, I think it has much big leg to
extend (it means we are yet to see much crazy stuff first before it bursts)

Another point to know is that a startup now could take much less people than
it used to have.

, ecosystems, etc) and the timing is not even close to anything to a 2000
bubble yet.
I would agree.
I remember that one saying about why the 2000 bubble bursted is "stupid IT
personnel in US can not leverage all the good things of technology
innovations"
I tent to agree with that too.

发帖数: 118 | 18 西雅图冬天（12-2）是天天毛毛雨，会有一两场雪，第二三天基本就化了。
虽然老下雨，但是空气并不感觉潮湿阴冷，不像咱们中国南方（南京，上海等）,还有
美国东部和中西部。
