标 题: Albany vs Boston = 85K vs 100K??

最近一下子有了两个工作的机会,一个在Albany, 给出了85K的工资，另外一个在Boston
旁边的一个
小镇上。两个公司算是在同一个领域，做的东西差的不是很多。大概觉得Albany的话，
研究的自由度会
稍为大一点，做的东西也比较新，比较高科技一点，基本上这个研究的组支持挺大一块
生产。Boston的
公司做的东西稍微低科技一点，在公司内部属于相对不是很核心的方向。 两个公司都
算是大公司吧。
Boston的公司以前是一个中型公司，刚被一个很大的公司收购了,所以一下子空出了几
个位置，他们很
想招人再发展，大概是被收购了之后才有财力这样做了吧。Albany的公司一直比较稳定
，想招人，也没
有很急迫，招了好几年，机会落到我头上了。跟着两个公司的人接触下来，感觉相处可
能都还不错。另

Redfin for house price and Craigslist for apartment rent by city.) When you
don't have children and when they are small, $100K should be plenty. When
your kids are older, you will need more because:
1. you have to have a bigger apartment/house
2. the kids will have various classes
However, don't forget that by that time, your pay might be higher too. |

1) Your wife will be much easier to find a job in Boston than in Albany.
2) Boston is a much better place to raise your kid.
3) Boston has much more opportunities.
4) Believe it or not, Albany winter is much worse than Boston due to inland
location.

childcare expenses would be enough. If his wife is working, then her salary
should be enough to cover daycare.

they are living. But in 3 years (since they seeming don't have kids yet),
he might get a raise/promotion.

Actually, I've already signed the Albany company. Quitting the job
before I start to work there seems hurting some Karma. So, I am
expecting the Boston company to pay me a little more for me to go
through all the troubles. The business I am in has a very small circle.
Turning down the Albany company means burning one bridge, among just a
few. Another concern is the job security. I feel the job in Albany
company is more secure, since it is the hard

Boston是个居民很年轻的城市，适合学生和单身的工作的。如果是一个家庭，买房子要买好
区就很贵啦（以后宝宝要上好学校），开销什么都很大呢。
其实最重要的就是， 让你LP选，以绝后患！

85k在Albany生活很好了。 |

You will waste more time and spend more money if you live in Boston and its
vicinities. Stay in Albany if you have a choice. |
