born in less developed countries and chooses biology as his major, say, by
mistake?
He has a strong background in physics, thus probably he will choose
something similar to structural biology as his major. Then, he tried to
implement something new approach to blabla research, and let us assume that
he chooses determining protein structure as his thesis topic.
He is good at thinking some new approaches that will be useful. But
unfortunately, his logic goes way beyond his boss' understanding. Then his
boss will say: I do not understand what you r doing. Do you listen to me?
He knows that if he follows his boss' suggestion, he will not make as much
contribution as his capability. So he tried to communicate to his boss in a
polite way: I think my approach will make significant improvement over other
appoarches by the following reason:1..2...3...
He boss told him that he could not understand a word from him. He think
Einstein is stupid by all the measurements, because he would not listen.
Additionally, his boss worries about the funding issue, because Einstein
does not think the area his boss interested in sole for money raising
purposes is useful at all. That research is just repeating what others do,
and since that research is related to diseases, so his boss could become
rich by conducing that research.
Then Einstein was so disappointed that his talent has no use. Everything was
pre-determined because the fundraising issue. He struggled to convince
himself that what he is doing is useful.
Then there is another person, say, Hillllllltttter, who is a good speaker.
He knows exactly what the boss wants. And he knows that by doing so, he will
become famous as well.
Eventually Hilllllttttlter becomes famous, because he could produce whatever
his boss whats him to do. As a result of that, his boss thinks that
Hillllttler is a genius, because he got a lot of fundings from the
Hillllltttler's research.
Also, Einstein was not good at explaining his thoughts to others, mostly
because he could not understand how does the average IQ person thinks.
Hilllllltttter, on the other hand, just talked in a very simple but
effective way. Hilllltttler became a raising star in research.
After Hilllltttter becomes PI, he found someone, Hillllttttter Jr, who has
exactly the same style. These three people form a group, and if any new
discovery does not agree to them, they will kill that person to death.
Eventually Hilllltttters control the research, and where is Einstein? Like
Yi-tang Zhang, who made the most significant mathematic research
contribution in 21st century, went to subway to become a waiter. Unlike
mathematic research, in which you could publish without funding, there is no
hope in biology research.
There is no way that the research system in US will do any good in research.
The system relies on the personal virtue of PI, which can not be controlled
. Ones that follow hot topic and know how to establish connection to raise
money wins, and ones that who want to benefits human being loses. Eventually
, there will be some famous "cheaters" in the system. That is just another
typical example of "cheaters win".
