发帖数: 2041 | 5 No kidding and stop repeating what you said. You don't get it huh, zero
profit mean zero dollar for the school. Profit is a relative term (go ask
your accountant). If you still don't get it, you company is going to be a
total failure no matter how good the science is.

1. You have to follow the rules/regulation of your institute. Otherwise,
there is all kind of issues. Also there is all kinds of political among
faculty members.
2. There is conflict interest disclose in each institute plus federal
regulation.
3. There is also institute support too.
Your information is unclear. If you are in 60% category, it is in the low
range.
My experience (I do not have business):
1. Conflict: you pay a lot to school but you can also use a lot of resource.
Ours: 50% to school, 5% to college, 10% to department for supporting
research only, 15% go to lab to support research only; the rest/left for you
(the number is close but changed for not being dig out). In those case,
they are allowed to have space in school and apply school fund and legal
service etc. Some of them even got their people to have school benefit.
2. No conflict: school does not care but you need to disclose (many forms in
my institute!) and will be reviewed by committee. But one can never cross
line. Even school does not care, federal, state, and other agents can take
care of it later against both you and your school.
3. Conflict or not: better no business with school. Any business activity
between school and your business will be reviewed (at least, the rule is
written there).
However, many regulation are applied to faculties and stuffs including
postdoctorals but not student in my school (same at Harvard too as I recall)
because they pay tuition and school does not own them.
If you do not use any your institute resource and your working hours, and it
is not related to your job, you have no intention to tight or sell ... to
your institute, you should not be in the category to pay school. It's like
you open a pizza or gasoline place. Even you use school IP, you are OK
after you got the liscence or legal agreement.
My final suggestion: find the REAL answer in your school or ask REAL legal
advice.

如果在学校研究所工作，一般对于教授有工作九个半月的规定，
薄厚什么的没具体规定，但肯定也不能有一个其它的全职工作。
如果在外面开公司，肯定不能干CEO，或者chief scientist之类的全职工作，
只能是股东，最多是董事或者scientific advisory board member，
这种情况下公司的利润也需要交给学校大部分吗？
我以前只知道专利使用费的收入大概是这么分的。
