J. Craig Venter is moving past the human genome — for example, by designing
algae that could replace fossil fuels.
Companies like Exxon Mobil and BP are working with J. Craig Venter, who runs
a company and a foundation, to use artificial organisms to develop fuels. | k*****o 发帖数: 1486 | 2 It is interesting, but a long way to go...
Biofuel is a promising project, but to scale up the production is
difficult.
If you use algae, that's gonna take a lot of spaces, as you have seen from
the discovery channel. Mechanical and chemical engineers are trying to make
some space-saving "bucket" to make it work, but I don't think it is going to
be easy.
If you use E. coli, the efficient degradation process of a cheap resource, e
.g. fiber, is required. There has been no such a powerful enzyme y | A******y 发帖数: 2041 | 3 Venter's company actually makes money? He didn't even invent the modern
sequencing instrument yet trying to hog all the glory. |
