Class I (top 25%) students were told to do independent study, because they had demonstrated enough proficiency that they didn't need to study anymore. Most of them ended up doing only "dream studies". (There was a theory that dream helps memory.) Class II (the next 25%) students skipped 1st year and started straight at sophomor
