THE MAASTRICHT UPPER AREA CONTROL CENTRE (UAC)
The Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre (UAC) is part of the EUROCONTROL
Agency and is tasked with the provision of air traffic control (ATC)
services to civil air traffic in the upper airspace over Belgium, Luxembourg
, the Netherlands and the north-western part of Germany. Within the
Maastricht UAC, the Engineering Division is a large unit comprising some 140
members of staff who are responsible for providing a cost-effective and
timely support service to maintain the high-level operational availability
of all the technical systems. The Division consists of a number of sections/
units. In the Operational Systems (OPE) Unit, the Surveillance Data
Processing team (SDP) is responsible for the software of the SDP systems and
radars technical evaluations. Within this team there is a need for an
Advanced Software Engineer with ATC SDP expertise.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be accountable to the Team Leader Surveillance
Data Processing, and in particular responsible for:
* development and maintenance of the mission critical Surveillance Data
Processing and Safety Net Products;
* analysis of technical and operational problem reports;
* bug fixing, analysis and implementation of change request and testing;
* development and maintenance of documents and technical reports
according to the Quality System;
* technical evaluation of the quality of data from surveillance sensors
(Radars, WAM, ...);
* supporting projects and management of small projects or work packages;
* participating in the coordination of the internal and external
interfaces of the systems;
* participating in working groups and studies;
* delivery of technical training in SDP matters.
REQUIRED PROFILE
* Bachelor degree in engineering, computer science or equivalent
professional experience.
* At least 5 years relevant experience as a software developer and
designer.
* General knowledge of Air Traffic Management.
* Good knowledge of UNIX/LINUX.
* Very good C/C++ programming skills; python programming skills would be
an advantage.
* Experience or know-how of ATM Surveillance tools and applications is a
distinct advantage.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
* Good interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication
skills with experience in writing technical documentation.
* Ability to present and defend the MUAC viewpoint in different internal
User Groups.
* The languages of the Agency are English and French. For this
particular post, candidates must have a good command of English. A working
knowledge of French, Dutch or German would be an advantage.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
* An initial selection will be made by a Selection Board on the basis of
the candidates' qualifications and experience. Thereafter, those candidates
considered suitable may be invited for assessment and interviews.
* Applications will be accepted from nationals of EUROCONTROL Member
States only. Agency staff subject to the Staff Regulations governing
officials, the General Conditions of Employment governing servants at the
Maastricht Upper Area Control Centre, or the Conditions of Employment of
Contract Staff are considered internal candidates. At the closing date of
the notice of competition, internal candidates must have completed their
probationary period.
* The selected candidate will be offered an appointment for an
undetermined period pursuant to the provisions of the General Conditions of
Employment. Before being confirmed in the post, he/she will be required to
work a probationary period of 9 months.
* The selected candidate will be appointed in principle at the basic
grade of the advertised job bracket.
