glazed expressions, and Approved Supplier Lists were scarce if not non-
existent. Jump forward a decade and "Preferred Suppliers Lists" were
evolving. These, however, were based more on established relationships
between buyer and supplier than on the credentials of the vendors concerned.
Self-audits were distributed for completion and return but the system was a
