Maybe better let the dealer to do it or find a shop that specializes in
European cars.
I believe there is a vacuum hose at the back of the valve cover with a
plastic clip.
The plastic clip can get brittle over the years and is very difficult to
remove if one does it for the first time. If the mechanic breaks it, he
needs to take off the entire intake manifold to fix it. I doubt a non-
specialized shop will take the job.
A new valve cover could cost $400 to $500 in parts.
Just wondering what could cause the entire PCV fitting to rip. Most ppl just
has a bad PCV membrane. Two times, I had a dealer/mechanic left tools/lose
bolts in the engine bay after they "done" the job. Much more if you count
the number of times a shop simply did not finish their job correctly.

s*****r 发帖数: 9 | 10 A large leak can certainly throw a lean code. In this case, I suspect the
crack is the actual PCV housing, which is even more problematic. The mass
air flow sensor is behind the airfilter. You basically have unmetered leak
after the MAF. The air-fuel mixture will be too lean (too much air). The ECU
will adjust the short term and long term fuel trim to increase the fuel.
When the fuel trim is too large, the ECU throw a code. The other codes could
simply be caused by engine performance not what the ECU expects based on
various sensors. Or there could be other problems. The BMW uses plastic to
reduce the weight in the front to put the center of mass right where the
driver sits. Problem arises if you put plastic over heat cycles and plus
high vacuum produced by the turbo. There is also contact corrosion issues
with metal parts for an aluminum-magnesium alloy engine. Plastic is the
least expensive way to deal with it. When BMW used a magnesium valve cover
in early generation N52, all the bolts to the valve cover were single use.
If the car is pre-2015, it may be worthwhile take the opportunity to replace
the timing chain assembly. Early N20 is notorious with the timing chain
assembly falls apart. One may end up with an engine rebuilt if the assembly
is trashed. |
