这不是逼着冲么，要么就开得慢到在路上被18轮超车…
我耐着性子开了3星期，给了4%…新车没兴趣再搞了 |

是$100.64/6 months，现在保费是$546.23/6 months，按每年开8500英里估算。如果其
他参数不变，每年2500英里，折扣为$186.48/6 months。现在还没都续保险的时候，能
否真得给这个折扣还不知道。网上看到有人抱怨说State Farm耍赖，不按In-Drive估计
的给。

寄回去终于能正常开车了，谁知renew时又涨回来了，看了一下，想要discount的话还
要再用snap shot，操，刚解放又要回解放前，直接换geico. 以后买保险看到类似的玩
意直接无视。对了，用snapshot期间，一个哥们借车半天忘了跟他提这个了，一下午让
他搞出来30 多个hard brake...真尼玛醉了

Hacking the Progressive Snapshot OBDII device for perpetual 30% discount on
insurance (self.hacking)

Background:
The Progressive Snapshot is a device offered by automotive insurance company
Progressive. It talks to your OBDII computer built into your car via the
OBDII port, usually located under your steering wheel / above the drivers
feet. It recieves information on vehicle speed and VIN and sends it back to
Progressive via a cellular modem built into the Snapshot. Abrupt increases
or decreases in vehicle speed (changes of more than about 5mph per second)
will be communicated back to Progressive and result in a ding to your
potential discount. Monthly driving distance is also reported. It also pings
the cell network several times a day, so if there are no pings they email
you to say plug it back in. It also logs power loss, so if you unplug it
then plug it back in repeatedly they may be aware of tampering. It also logs
driving time, and dings you if you drive during 'high risk' times.
At the end of a 3-6 month period, the Progressive insurance company will
give you a discount between 0% and 30%, based upon the above collected
information.
Objective:
Trick the system into giving you the maximum discount without breaking any
laws or opening the device, at minimum difficulty and cost, and without
having to modify your driving behavior or driving times.
Method:
Step1 ) have or get insurance from Progressive, tell them you use the
car for pleasure, with annual use of 500-1500miles per year.
Step2 ) have a car with OBDII
Step3 ) live in an area eligible for their Snapshot program, order one
for each of your cars
Step4 ) build the adapter device described below
Step5 ) use the adapter the 1st time with the car, for a short GENTLE
3mi drive, on the weekend sometime between 7am and 8pm, really gentle, don't
use your brakes barely at all. Turn off car, battery up BEFORE unplugging
from car, go to house, plug into wall wart, battery off.
Step6 ) once a month, plug the battery in BEFORE unplugging from wall
wart, take it to car, plug into car, THEN take battery out. Repeat Step5.
Step7 ) After 3-6 months they'll confirm your permenant 30% discount and
have you mail the device back.
Device:
Adapter Device can be based on any short OBDII extension cable. I found mine
on ebay for $4 shipped. You'll also need a new 9V battery, a 9V battery
clip, a 12V 1a wall wart, and a matching female plug for whatever the end of
your wall wart is. Splice your positives from 9V battery clip AND female
plug to OBDII pin 16. Splice your negatives from both TO both OBDII pins 4
and 5.
Tape everything up securely, all done!
How it Works:
The adapter has to 'see' your VIN via the ODBII port, so it must be done on
your car. The adapter must stay powered up after reading your VIN, or else
it doesn't count the time between power disconnect until it's plugged back
in and sees the correct VIN again towards your discount. By using battery or
the wall wart you keep it powered up at all times. You put a few miles on
it once a month to keep it active.
Proof:
Thought up this hack, made two of them last year. Used on both [SWIM] and [
SWIM]'s wife's cars exactly as above, got full 30% rebate, no emails from
Progressive to plug the device back in, and usage report on their website
looked normal and based off of my usage per Method above.
