AUGUSTA CO., VA – A Stuarts Draft woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash
Monday night (Jan. 28) in Augusta County. Trooper A.T. Coffey is
investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 7:50 p.m. in the
eastbound lanes of Interstate 64 near the 89.9 mile marker.
A Honda Civic was traveling eastbound in the left lane of I-64 when the
vehicle ran off the road to the left. The driver overcorrected, traveled
into the right lane then back into the left lane again. A Ford F-150 pick-up
truck traveling in the left lane struck the driver's side door of the Honda
Civic. A third vehicle, a Chevy Impala, was also traveling in the left lane
and struck the rear of the pick-up truck.
The driver of the Honda Civic, Katie Higgins, 26, of Stuarts Draft, died at
the scene. She was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the pick-up truck was transported by ambulance to Augusta
Health Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
No one was injured in the Chevy Impala.
The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting Trooper
Coffey with the crash investigation which remains on-going at this time.
