A Park Ridge woman has been charged in connection with a head-on crash of
her Ford Fusion into a Honda Pilot driven by another borough woman. Cheryl
Downey, 36, of Park Ridge faces multiple charges in connection with the
crash that occurred on Park Avenue Nov. 20 at 10:40 p.m.
Captain Joseph Rampolla said Downey was traveling westbound on Park Avenue
and was rounding the curve where the road turns west when she cut the turn
too close and crashed head-on into the Honda that was traveling eastbound.
Rampolla said the front driver's side tires on both vehicles were torn off
in the crash.
People in a vehicle behind Honda witnessed the crash and told police when
they arrived at the scene that after the crash they jumped out of their
vehicle to check on the drivers. According to Rampolla, the witnesses said
the driver of the Ford got out of her car "reeked of booze" and just walked
away. They checked on the woman in Honda; the airbag had deployed but she
did not appear to be seriously injured. She was later taken to Valley
Hospital with injuries from the airbag deployment and crash.
Police ran the plate of the abandoned Ford and Officer Gregory Santangelo
and a Woodcliff Lake officer responded to Downey's residence. They
encountered her outside her apartment, "clearly intoxicated," according to
Rampolla. She was taken back to the scene and was positively identified by
the witnesses as the driver of the car that caused the crash. An effort was
made to have her perform field sobriety tests, but she was not cooperative.
She was arrested and transported to headquarters where she refused to take a
breath test. She was subsequently transported to Bergen Regional Medical
Center under the Alcohol Treatment and Rehabilitation Act.
Downey is being charged with endangering an injured victim, a third degree
crime; assault by auto, a fourth degree crime, and was issued summonses for
DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, leaving the scene of a crash with
bodily injuries, failure to report a crash with bodily injury and failure to
keep right. All are answerable to the Pascack Joint Court on Friday, Dec.

是被气囊打了一下脸吗。:)
