4×4[edit]
Four-by-four (4×4) refers to the general class of vehicles. The first
figure is normally the total wheels (more precisely, axle ends, which may
have multiple wheels), and the second, the number that are powered.
Syntactically, 4×2 means a four-wheel vehicle that transmits engine power
to only two axle-ends: the front two in front-wheel drive or the rear two in
rear-wheel drive.[1]
4WD[edit]
Four wheel drive (4WD) refers to vehicles that have a transfer case, not a
differential, between the front and rear axles, meaning that the front and
rear drive shafts will be locked together when engaged. This provides
maximum torque transfer to the axle with the most traction, but can cause
binding in high traction turning situations. They are also either full-time
or part-time 4WD selectable. 4WD is not intended for high speeds without a
limited-slip mechanism.
AWD[edit]
All wheel drive (AWD) or "permanent multiple[2]-wheel drive" refers to a
drive train system that includes a differential between the front and rear
drive shafts.[3] This is normally coupled with some sort of anti-slip
technology that will allow differentials to spin at different speeds, but
still maintain the ability to transfer torque from one wheel in case of loss
of traction at that wheel. Typical AWD systems work well on all surfaces,
but are not intended for all consumers.[3]
IWD[edit]
Individual-wheel drive (IWD) was coined to identify those electric vehicles
whereby each wheel is driven by its own individual electric motor. This
system essentially has inherent characteristics that would be generally
attributed to four-wheel drive systems like the distribution of the
available power to the wheels. However, because of the inherent
characteristics of electric motors, torque can be negative, as seen in the
Rimac Concept One and SLS AMG Electric. This can have drastic effects, as in
better handling in tight corners.[4]
The term IWD can refer to a vehicle with any number of wheels. For example,
the Mars Rovers are 6-wheel IWD.

滑之后4驱才会Kick in，这个过程是电脑控制的，人没法选择
jeep上有一个旋钮，放在normal档后轮是断开的，这时候就是全时前驱，但是你可以自
己选四驱模式，挂上之后动力50/50分配给前后轮

方便在很低速时输出比常态更高的牵引力,从而在某些行驶表面上提供更好的通过性

发帖数: 2505 | 18 没有这么简单。四驱系统很复杂，不同厂家，车型都不一样。对于4WD,AWD的定义也各
说不一。一般而言，配备4L的车才能叫4WD，全时 4H 的就是AWD了.
4L就是低速越野用的，四轮锁死一起转。有些车会在车速30MPH以上自动解除4L, 进入
FWD, 或4H状态.有些需要手动解除。
AWD或4H是公路行驶用的，容许轮间有转速差，方便转弯。但是在野地会出现单轮打滑
现象，这时需要电路系统介入锁止打滑的车轮。

You have to stop, and then switch
4H is running on the road.
Trucks are 4H + 4L. Most frame frame based suvs have 4H and 4L. Most unibody
SUVs don't.
Full time 4WD/AWD means you can drive at 4H all time on the road.
Computer-controlled on-demand AWD means most time it drives at 2H, 4H kicks
in on-demond controlled by the computer. But it is still part-time AWD. |
