Chrysler Recalls Almost 745,000 Jeep Vehicles for Faulty Airbags | a*****e

recall them.
Chrysler Group LLC said it will recall Jeep Liberty vehicles from the 2002
and 2003 model years, and Jeep Grand Cherokees from 2002 to 2004 to fix
airbag problems that could result in inadvertent deployment of the bags and
pretensioners that tighten the seat belts before a crash.
Chrysler said it had investigated reports of airbag problems with the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and found flaws in a part
called the occupant restraint control module. The resulting recall includes
744,822 vehicles.
NHTSA said in January that it was intensifying an investigation into the
reported airbag problems.
“A design change to a supplied component was linked to a small number of
inadvertent air bag deployments, and in keeping with the best interests of
our customers, we initiated a recall campaign,” says David Dillon, Chrysler
Group’s head of product investigations and campaigns.
Chrysler said it is unaware of any accidents resulting from the problem,
though there were a few cases of sudden, unexpected airbag deployments. The
car maker said the incidents accounted for “less than three one-hundredths
of one percent (0.03 percent) of the subject vehicles.”
