发帖数: 10109 | 1 Ford is recalling more than 128,000 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans
from the 2010 and 2011 model years because, apparently, the wheels can fall
off the cars.
Federal regulators say that bolts holding the wheels on can fracture,
causing a vibration. If the vibration is ignored, the wheels can separate
from the car.
“The problems may be caused by steel wheel mounting pads or rear brake
discs that have been incorrectly built and cannot properly support the wheel
,” Ford said.
Ford says they will notify owners. Dealers will replace lug nuts on all four
wheels, inspect rear-wheel disc brake surfaces, and replace them as
necessary for some of the sedans with the model years 2010 and 2011, the
agency said.
“Affected customers can continue to drive their vehicles,” said Susan
Krusel, a spokeswoman for Dearborn, Michigan-based Ford. “We are not aware
of any accidents or injuries.”
The recall affects only cars with 17-inch steel wheels built from April 1,
2009 through April 30, 2009, and from Dec. 1, 2009 through Nov. 13, 2010.
The cars were built at the Hermosillo stamping and assembly plant in Mexico
from April 2009 and from December 2009 through November 13, 2010, Reuters
reports. Cars with alloy wheels are not affected.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating Jan.
21, according to a recent Bloomberg report. The agency at the time was aware
of “29 owner complaints, including four instances in which wheels had
fallen off,” and 128 warranty claims Ford had paid for fractured wheel
studs.
The recall is expected to begin around Jan. 24.
