You'd better write a bill-of-sale for the seller and you to sign. It's not
needed but good to have. There are lots of template online. It basically
says that the sale is AS IS and the buyer takes full responsibility after
the sale.
Also, contact DMV immediately about the sale and return tag asap. Contact
insurance to cancel the insurance.
