俺就知道查VIN，私人的话要mechanic check，dealer要不要？其余的真是一概不知，
请大家不吝

if you are not familiar with cars, bring the car to a mechanic
do not buy extended warrenty

有dealer给warranty么？比如3个月之内负责之类的

if it's a cheap $5000 car, 3 months warranty maybe all you can get.
if it's over $10k, I would only buy from a reputable dealer with much
longer warranty. best if it's backed by manufacture.

the dealer says, nothing matters if it's not on the paper.
If you don't know cars VERY WELL, insist to take the vehicle to your
mechanic of choice for a buyer's check (50-70USD). Even if there is no big
problem, you might find small surprises according to which you can discount
the price.
Maybe have the dealer to write down all the accessories/etc with the car, so
you can get a better reference (e.g., on Edmunds/KBB).
Tell your mechanic that you are considering buying from the particular
dealer. The mechanic might tell you about their styles/warn you of possible
omission.

On the other hand, if the car is quite new (1-2yrs old) and has a very
convincing history, then it could be the case that the dealer is just
selling for profit without hiding much about the vehicle (particular the
dealer is a well established one with good reputation). In that case, the
real issue is just about a good price.
