.
You have to see the Engine code to determine if this car uses timing belt or
not.
Check with the owner if the TB has been changed if it does have one. |

"1ZZ-FE", this is the engine code. The sticker should look like this one:
This particular sticker has a "4A-FE" engine code.
If it is 7A-FE, then it has a timing belt. It should have been changed at
least once by now.
If it is "1zz-fe", then it has a timing chain. No mainteinac is needed. But
when it fails, it will be more expensive to change than a belt. |

同事看到的问题是
The serpentine (fan) belt shows cracks and signs of wear and should be
replaced (but is operational). It is cheap item (<$20), but the labor may
be 2 hours labor.

The price for timing belt change will be higher than a The serpentine (fan)
belt change. You have to ask if the owner has changed it. I would ask a
recipt to prove it. If they can not provide proof, I will decut $500 from
the previous offer price.
Well, just noticed that your offer price is $500 more than KBB "excellent
condition. Is the car that good so that it will exceed the excellent

this car was made in 1997. I am 99% sure it has a timing belt.
Tell the seller that TB needs to be changed every 5 yars or 90K miles,
whichever comes first. It will break. When it breaks, the car will be dead
and it has to be towed. |
