study), 4 journal papers (english), and several international conference
presentations. In addition, I worked in Australia when I made my application
. The VO still aksed me to take an IELTS exam. Although it was not hard for
me (L7 R7.5 W7 S6 without any studying), it wasted me about three month time
. Therefore, it is based on my persoanl experience ... ...

I assume you still work in OZ either industrial or academic. Would you
please compare the environment of research at USA and OZ? My friends from OZ
would not encourage me to go to OZ for post-doc because he believe it
would be disadvantage for career development. How about life at OZ, much
different with USA?
Thank you for your opinion in advance |

事业(career)就不如生活(get a life)重要了
除非坚信自己大器晚成型的,那么找个移民国家比较好

If it is a postdoc position, I would suggest you to stay in USA.
But if you have a permanent position in OZ and a postdoc position in USA (
this was my case), then it is hard to say. Different persons have varied
opinions/decesions.
The academic environment in OZ is similiar with that in USA except it is a
little relax (it also depends on your future career planning and your major).
One thing is true is that immigration to OZ is much easier than that to USA.
Hope this helps.

Now what I am going to face is post-doc+PR @OZ vs post-doc@US if I could get
the 137 visa. Without a PR visa, I would unlikely go to OZ for post-doc.
It's hard for me (and my major) to find an permanent position in OZ directly
. Also lots of opening prefer PR rather than alien. I agree with jsolomon, I
am too old to purse a risky future. I enjoy research but it is extremely
hard to survive in academic at US independently. I do not like the idea that

I also agree with BZ (jsolomon) ... It is also part of reason I came to OZ.
Good luck with anything. If you need any help, you can drop me an eamil at
