The Chandra X-ray Observatory has examined two weird objects that should look
like neutron stars, but don't. They appear to be incredibly dense — too dense
even for neutron stars. Astronomers suspect the objects are composed of a new
type of matter made simply of quarks, the most basic subatomic particles
known.
A team of scientists headed by Jeremy Drake of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center
