inscribed by hand on the drawing’s original mount: ‘Thou wast Perfect till
Iniquity was Found in Thee.’ The inscription would have emphasised the

at least many illustrations from Milton,
and quite a lot from Jerusalem...
and, and, how about Europe: a prophecy?
can't recall the others right now.
it's unfair to compare his illustrations to works that were
done independent of any text. lots of them are illustrated
poetry, cannot stand alone by its own. check out his
non-illuminated works.
