奥古斯特。罗丹是十九世纪末二十世纪初法国最杰出的雕塑大师。他出身于
平民家庭,早在少年时期就显露了出众的艺术才华。青年时期,他学习装饬和雕
刻,后来从事雕塑创作,去意大利、比利时,受到多那太罗和米开朗基罗艺术风
格的影响,在创作上进行了划时代的革新,摆脱古典技法,创作出许多有影响的
典型形象。他的作品注重现实,运用内在的活力和紧张的程度来展现思想上的斗
争和感情上的悲壮。有些人物造型集中概括全人类意义的形象。在艺术家后期作
品中,更加追求雕塑的绘画性手法,注重整体渲染和局部的揣摩,运用不稳定的
明暗对比,使人物形象好从光线和空间中浮动出来……。

if one wants to summrize Rodin's works in one word, that word is "struggle".
his early works displayed the influrence of Michelangelo. "the age of bronze",
"saint john the baptist", all clearly resembled the renaissance. although
"the age of bronze" made Rodin famous, it was not because of his own style, but
because of his techniques. the scupture was so real that Rodin was accused
casting directly from model.
his own style standed out later on starting in his forties when he created some

considering the time rodin lived in, it was exactly when impressionism and
post-impressionism reached their peaks. rodin was also affected by the
sprit of this movement. he worked from real model. he freely abstracted
his sculptures. often we see different levels of detailing on the same
piece. one way i like to distinguish rodin's works from classical is the
facial especially eye details. rodin seldomly clear-cut the |
