Apple kicks of its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San
Francisco on Monday and the rumor mill is cranking away. Everything from the
next desktop operating system to a new iPad is on the table.
New iPad
Can we expect a fifth-generation iPad at this year's WWDC? It doesn't seem
likely, but a recent report has raised some eyebrows. CNET reports Gumdrop
Cases has already released a case for a so-called iPad 5. This isn't the
only time the case-maker has predicted Apple products ahead of an official
announcement, but according to CNET, the company has been accurate 4 out of
5 times.
iOS 7
Apple is widely expected to announce an update to its mobile operating
system -- iOS 7. Rumors reported by 9to5Mac say that the new design will be
"black, white, and flat all over." Meaning, the giant may move away from a
shiny, bubbly design to a look that is stripped down with more black and
white elements.
Citing sources in design meetings, 9to5Mac reports that Apple senior vice
president of industrial design Jony Ive is making the push because he
believes "software designs filled with physical metaphors do not stand the
test of time."
Other changes that could come to iOS 7 include: dropping the shine from the
transparent time bar on the lock screen, switching from a square password
keypad to a round one and changing the drop-down design from gray linen to a
dark gray background with white text.
iRadio
CNET reports that Apple made a deal with Warner Music over the weekend,
suggesting that rumors of a streaming radio service are close to being a
reality. The tech giant already has a deal with Universal Music and is said
to be in negotiations with Sony.
The music streaming service is said to work more like Pandora because it
does not offer on-demand listening, CNET reports. But listeners of the radio
service may be able to click through and purchase songs they like.
New MacBook Pros
Apple may update its MacBook Pro line with better hardware and software.
Citing KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, MacRumors reports the tech giant
will announce a slimmer 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display that has a
slimmer design and better camera. Kuo also believes the MacBook Air will get
dual built-in microphones, like last year's MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Apple's keynote address will take place on Monday, June 10 at 10 a.m. PT.
CNET will live blog the event. |
