AT&T customers ordered more Apple (AAPL) iPhone 5s than any iPhone the
mobile carrier has ever offered, measuring both first-day and this past
weekend’s sales, according to an AT&T (T) press release.
AT&T shares are down fractionally to $37.26 approaching the market open.
Apple stock is up nearly a point, or $6.14 premarket, to $699.50.
All Things D notes this morning that AT&T bragged similarly last fall when
it said it received 200,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 4S in the first 12
hours measured. So the iPhone 5 first day pre-orders record has to be more
than that. That, and Apple’s comments that it has been “blown away” by
customer response may indicate demand could reach “first-week sales of six
to 10 million phones as analysts have forecast,
