New Samsung Galaxy Has Apple iPhone 5 In Its Crosshairs

Samsung (005930KS) today unveiled a new version of its flagship Galaxy
smartphone that the company hopes can go head-to-head with the Apple (AAPL)
iPhone while also cooling patent wars.
The new Galaxy S III counts a number of new features, including a larger
screen, facial-recognition technology and a faster processor that allows
users to watch video and write messages at the same time, The Wall Street
Journal reports.
Samsung, which has become the world’s largest mobile and smartphone maker,
and has conquered the Chinese market (now the world’s largest), is hoping
the new phone can grab market share ahead of the iPhone 5, expected later
this year.The new phone will hit stores first in Europe by the end of this
month, and be available for sale in the States by summer.
The company is hoping to sell more than 200 million smartphones this year,
boosting its market share as high as 24%, compared to 21.1% last year.
Samsung also said the new device used altered software that would not add to
the ongoing patent war between the two smartphone giants. | d***a
