the world used to unlock their iPhones.
AFAIK most other smartphones are unlocked this way.

现在iphone 4，在02以上的基带都不能unlock，除了卡贴，或者160刀的那个
superpaddy网站

locked. It is because some gatekeeper inside the phone prevent the phone
from being used in other carriers. Mostly it can't pass some standard
security authentication. Basically it is a phone side limitation. In
this case, it sounds like this authentication can be passed through
network update. I am not aware of this kind of things exist before.

发帖数: 244 | 8 通过itunes激活iphone的时候会通过apple的数据库检查IMEI是否在unlocked数据库，
如果是的就在激活的时候解锁
iphone。所以你说是iphone side limitation也没错，但是这个limitation是通过激活
的过程来控制的，而激活是要通过网
络的。
