Google disallows Facebook from siphoning email data, demands two-way flow of
information
By Darren Murph posted Nov 8th 2010 9:58AM
Feisty, are we Google? As the battle between these two internet powers
continues to intensify, Google has fired the latest shot by outright
blocking Facebook (and potentially others) from accessing its users'
information. As the story goes, Facebook members can easily import their
Google contact list in order to find friends on The Social Network, but
according to El Goog, that leaves users "in a data dead end." Evidently
Google is somewhat perturbed that the data flow isn't a two-way street,
noting that it "will no longer allow websites to automate the import of
users' Google Contacts (via its API) unless they allow similar export to
other sites." We're hearing that the change is being made gradually, with no
ETA on a Facebook status update regarding the tiff. Sometime tells us some
serious digital drama is about to go down, though the use of bad grammar and
shrtnd wrds will prbly lessn the effct. | m*****e 发帖数: 4193 | 2 Google made a right move. | a***y 发帖数: 19743 | 3 Facebook不是也block Ping吗

| j**h 发帖数: 173 | 6 Facebook could be the No. 1 threat to Google's ads business. People are
saying Google's search is about
collecting the demand for business, but Facebook's social network can
generate demand and in the
meantime collecting demand better. So this is a necessary move from Google'
s perspective. I don't agree
with your title though. Yes, it's hypocritical for Google to maintain they
are open, but it doesn't put them
into the category of whores. It's just business competition.
And I have issues with both of them. The users of google search or facebook
are not their customers - they
earn money from advertisers. They do have incentives to get more users, but
keeping advertisers happy is
their ultimate goal, and dominating the playing fields (search and social
graph) are more important than
privacy or anything else. This is just like M$ on the PC market, which was *
driven* by corporate IT, and
keeping the IT people happy has always been more important than end users.
The result is dismal user
experience (Windows 7 is fine). On the contrary, Apple's customers are
usually the end users, and therefore
the user experience is their ultimate concern. That's the reason I trust
this company more than the other
two. It's about the incentives, not about open or closed, not about don't be
evil.

buzz气得我难受。我用me。

What Google is saying is that open is a two way street. If you use my open
API then you have to be open too.
I see nothing wrong with that. GPL is exactly like that and people don't
call it "closed".
Sure, Google feels threatened by Facebook and that's the primary motivation
of this policy change. Google is still a business.

| w******s 发帖数: 16209 | 14 I don't think what google did is wrong, it looks more fair now.
But google's open is inconsistant when facing competition or business
interest.
they want to do something , it is fine, just dont' keep painting themselves.
the inconsistancy happend in when google choose to bail out china,
and when they talkabout online privacy, copyright, giving user choice in
mobile phone etc..
you won't expect companies like oracle doing such thing, because they don't
package them as the moral standard for other company, they don't act as the
saver of the world.
I like to see google bring revolutionary new technology to the world, but
they really lost my respect in how they paintthemselves.

uploading photos of themselves, pets, and children, and send updates such as

nothing valuable on facebook except the information of who knows who and
what is their relation. From business point of view, the name of the person
