去年冬天Snowy Owl（雪鸮）大举南下(irruption)，消息都上了美国各大媒体。最近的
一只出现在离我家一个多小时车程的地方。由于懒惰，俺没有去看。本来以为要等下会
Snowy Owl irruption的时候才有缘相见，没想到不用等那么久。
昨天早上刚吃完早饭，正在琢磨一天的时间怎么打发，一个同事来电话问我有没有
Snowy Owl的最新消息。什么Snowy Owl?我摸不着头脑。赶快登录上本州的birding
list serv，果然昨天有人报告有一只Snowy Owl在邻居county出没。赶紧的，穿衣服走
人。带着老婆到了昨天报告的地点开着车转悠，由于下雾，能见度也就有个1/4英里。
正找着呢，又来电话了。这回是老鸟熟人，他找到了Snowy Owl，问我要不要来看。问
问地点，感情他就在我南面3英里的地方。赶紧的，调头去看。开了五分钟，到了地方
。那大白鸟就在路边蹲着呢。没有正经相机，只好拿着傻瓜对在spotting scope上找了
几张，大伙将就着看。老鸟有digiscoping adapter，所以找的比我好，链接在下面。
不过由于大雾，数毛是够呛了。不过老鸟的照片上可以看见鸟嘴上挂着小动物的肠子之
类的，说明早上吃过了。过了一会，我那个同事也拖家带口的来了。猫头鹰也很配合，
大伙都看了个痛快，度过了一个有意义的周六早晨。

不牛，不牛。这个叫digiscoping，至少在观鸟人群里比较流行。相机可以是傻瓜机也
可以是单反。老鸟朋友有digiscoping adapter，可以把相机稳定的架在目镜后面，像
下图这样。我的手拿的相片质量就差多了。按理说他的是65mm的望远镜，我的是80mm的
，如果别的条件一样的话，我应该可以用更快的快门，应该更清晰点才对。

为了得到及时的观鸟信息，我建议大家经常查看本地birding email listserv。这里有
一个各州email list的内容列表，也有通过电子邮件订阅的信息。比如说arita就可以
根据网页上的信息去 http://groups.yahoo.com/subscribe/SDBIRDS 订阅SD附近的鸟类信息。这样别人发布的鸟类信息你可以及时收到，你发现了不常见的鸟也可以通知别人。

看鸟，尤其是稀有的鸟或是是繁殖季节，不要走得太近大家都是爱鸟的人，追求美丽的
照片的同时也不要忘了不要打扰鸟类和破坏自然环境。如果是同别人一起出去看或者是
看热门鸟，更要注意保持距离，如果为了你一个人照到照片，把鸟吓跑了别人就该埋怨
你了。
建议大家经常温习一下American Birding Association的birding ethics guideline，
争取做爱鸟护鸟的榜样。

1. Promote the welfare of birds and their environment.
1(a) Support the protection of important bird habitat.
1(b) To avoid stressing birds or exposing them to danger, exercise restraint
and caution during observation, photography, sound recording, or filming.

that is Threatened, Endangered, or of Special Concern, or is rare in your

or hide, and take advantage of natural cover.
Use artificial light sparingly for filming or photography, especially for

and proceed only if access can be controlled, disturbance minimized, and
permission has been obtained from private land-owners. The sites of rare
nesting birds should be divulged only to the proper conservation authorities.
1(d) Stay on roads, trails, and paths where they exist; otherwise keep
habitat disturbance to a minimum.
2. Respect the law, and the rights of others.
2(a) Do not enter private property without the owner's explicit permission.
2(b) Follow all laws, rules, and regulations governing use of roads and
public areas, both at home and abroad.
2(c) Practice common courtesy in contacts with other people. Your exemplary
behavior will generate goodwill with birders and non-birders alike.
3. Ensure that feeders, nest structures, and other artificial bird
environments are safe.
3(a) Keep dispensers, water, and food clean, and free of decay or disease.
It is important to feed birds continually during harsh weather.
3(b) Maintain and clean nest structures regularly.
3(c) If you are attracting birds to an area, ensure the birds are not
exposed to predation from cats and other domestic animals, or dangers posed
by artificial hazards.
4. Group birding, whether organized or impromptu, requires special care.
Each individual in the group, in addition to the obligations spelled out in
Items #1 and #2, has responsibilities as a Group Member.
4(a) Respect the interests, rights, and skills of fellow birders, as well as
people participating in other legitimate outdoor activities. Freely share
your knowledge and experience, except where code 1(c) applies. Be especially
helpful to beginning birders.
4(b) If you witness unethical birding behavior, assess the situation, and
intervene if you think it prudent. When interceding, inform the person(s) of
the inappropriate action, and attempt, within reason, to have it stopped.
If the behavior continues, document it, and notify appropriate individuals
or organizations.
Group Leader Responsibilities [amateur and professional trips and tours].
4(c) Be an exemplary ethical role model for the group. Teach through word
and example.
4(d) Keep groups to a size that limits impact on the environment, and does

雪鸮是在极地冻原上生存的。冻原上没有高大的植物，所以雪鸮习惯在地上待着。不少
