be the reference for the job seeker doesn't really expect anything from him
/her, except for that they might expect a "thank you" note from him/her.
So, just tell them how grateful you are for their reference and time, and
how privileged you feel to have them to be your reference. There is always
an artful way to express your gratitude with true sincerity and without
overblown exaggeration. That certainly would make ref

with the reference, instead of the afterward thank you words/calls...
Thanks, your comments confirmed most of my understanding.
Do we have anybody here who have done reference check for potential
candidates they are about to hire? I'd really appreciate if you can
share what question you ask the reference for this kind of checking.

candidates they are about to hire". Hopefully you can get someone here or on AO forums.
But I speculate that theoretically you need to share with the reference
about whatever info you reveal to the interviewer, as I believe the main purpose of providing reference to prospective employers is for them to have someone to VERIFY with for EVERYTHING you told them, on top of trying to get reference' impression/judgment about you. I kn

question I posted in the prior post. However, you further explained,
if I understand u correctly, that reference check is more for
verification(objective) than for impression(subjective).
